Life & Culture

City of Los Ángeles

Los Ángeles was an experience that keeps me wanting to see more. It’s truly a melting pot of cultures. The astonishing advertisements were diverse and uniquely LA. They were in Spanish, Korean, Chinese, and even mixed Spanish with Korean.

The atmosphere was intense! Everyone was doing something; going to work, getting off work, heading to the club, standing in line, just a ton of verbs going on in this big metropolis.

What shocked me the most was my complete comfortability in this vast metropolis. Living in Oregon for the past two years I never felt more welcomed and strangely at home in Thai town. I felt ultimately part of the population, another body in the city. I was able to connect with all these groups of people.

The conversations with the random streetwalkers, store clerks, and skateboarders were something I had longed for since my time in Japan. The head nods and smiles from people of color that I hardly received in Portland, Oregon gave me a feeling of relief.

The persona that LA projects bring tourists by the fleets. Like the Sirens in Greek mythology, this metropolis lures people with its enchanting mixture of culture, and many americans shot for the fantasy life at being able to live in this cannibalistic metropolis.

Never the less, this is still a home for many, and for my time there it felt it was my home too.
